The calendar makes it possible to distinguish three fairly different offerings: major international comebacks, Spanish series, and shorter productions for those who prefer a story they can finish in a few days.
Lupin and Grande de España turn Friday into Netflix’s Big Day
The return of Lupin on October 23 is one of the week’s standout events. Omar Sy reprises the role of Assane Diop four years after the events of Part 3, with his character still in prison and determined to leave behind his life as a thief.
However, someone begins committing robberies using his identity. Assane must prove that he is not behind those crimes and regain the skills that made him a master of deception. The eight episodes of Part 4 will be available the same Friday, as Netflix Tudum confirms, a plus for those who prefer to binge the season in one sitting.
Netflix also premieres that day Grande de España, a six-episode Spanish dramedy starring Antonio de la Torre and Alexandra Jiménez. The story follows Don Leandro, an impoverished marquis trying to salvage his finances by selling a family mansion in Madrid. The appearance of a wealthy businesswoman interested in the property triggers a negotiation filled with secrets and appearances.
The series is created by Álvaro Fernández-Armero and Juan Cavestany, the minds behind Shame and We’re Sorry for the Inconvenience. It marks their first television production for Netflix via Cuidado con el perro, their production company.
The coincidence of these two releases offers Netflix two distinct audiences over the same weekend: fans of international suspense and those seeking a Spanish comedy with a familiar cast.
Moana arrives on Disney+ and Chris Pratt returns to Prime Video
The Wednesday, October 21 will be another major day of the week. Disney+ premieres in Spain the live-action adaptation of Moana, starring Catherine Lagaʻaia and Dwayne Johnson, who returns to portray the demigod Maui.
The film recovers the adventure of the young navigator from Motunui, its most recognizable characters, and several songs from the animated version. According to the official Disney Spain announcement, it also includes the new musical track Along The Way.
It is the most recognizable family-friendly pick of the lineup, while Prime Video bets on a very different audience that same day with The Final List, Season 2.
Chris Pratt resumes the character of James Reece in a new espionage story based on Jack Carr’s novel True Believer. After completing his list of targets, the former soldier faces an international conspiracy that forces him to act against a new threat and to investigate his family’s connections to the case.
Fans of action and covert-ops narratives have here one of the week’s clearest new offerings.
Nobody Wants This, Cyberpunk and Tulsa King: three returns for very different audiences
Netflix brings back Nobody Wants This, the romantic comedy starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, on Thursday, October 22. Its third season continues exploring the relationship between Joanne and Noah, a couple defined by religious, familial and personal differences.
Two days earlier, on Tuesday the 20th, arrives Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The new installment from Netflix and Studio Trigger returns to Night City with new characters and a standalone ten-episode story set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
Meanwhile, SkyShowtime plans to premiere Thursday the 22nd the fourth season of Tulsa King, with Sylvester Stallone once again at the helm of this crime drama about Dwight Manfredi and his attempt to expand his power.
They are three recognizable bets, but with very different expectations: romance, animated sci-fi, and gangster drama.
The Other New Titles: In Vitro, Farsante, Shady Business and Yaga
Spanish fiction has another notable presence with In Vitro, premiering on Monday the 19th on HBO Max. Set in a Barcelona-based assisted reproduction clinic, the six-episode series features Bruna Cusí, David Verdaguer and María Pujalte to explore the personal and ethical dilemmas surrounding fertility and motherhood.
On Tuesday the 20th, Disney+ adds Farsante, a mystery series led by Connie Britton and Sam Nivola. Its premise is unsettling: a teenager wakes up in the hospital after an accident and begins to suspect that his mother has been replaced by someone else.
Movistar Plus+ premieres Thursday the 22nd Shady Business, a British three-episode miniseries based on real events. The story reconstructs an environmental contamination investigation driven by two retirees who end up confronting corporate and institutional interests.
Finally, HBO Max schedules Friday the 23rd Yaga, a series starring Carrie-Anne Moss that blends criminal investigation with a reinterpretation of Baba Yaga. The disappearance of an heir from a powerful family leads a detective to a town where the secrets seem to have roots much older than expected.
Which Premiere Is Worth Watching Based on What You’re After
For anyone looking to start a series and finish it over the weekend, Lupin offers its eight new episodes starting Friday the 23rd. If the goal is to find a Spanish fiction with dark humor and a strong cast, Grande de España is Netflix’s option.
Moana fits best for a family movie-night session; The Final List is suitable for fans of action thrillers, and Shady Business offers a self-contained story in just three episodes.
The week concentrates its most commercial releases on Wednesday the 21st and Friday the 23rd of October. Friday will be especially competitive for Netflix, which launches simultaneously one of its recognizable international franchises and a new Spanish production.
