Saber y Ganar will mark its 7,000th episode with two specials on La 2 for TVE’s 70th anniversary

October 25, 2026

Know and Win faces one of the most notable weeks in its history. The quiz show hosted by Jordi Hurtado will celebrate its 7,000 broadcasts with two special programs that will also join the celebrations for TVE’s 70th anniversary.

The broadcasts will air on La 2 starting at 3:45 p.m.. The first will air on wednesday, October 28 and will be dedicated to reviewing the trajectory of public television; the second, scheduled for Thursday, October 29, will center on the milestone reached by the quiz show, according to RTVE.

Two specials with two distinct purposes

The Wednesday program will focus on TVE’s seven decades through its questions and content. In this way, public television takes a leading role within a format that, for nearly thirty years, has been part of its daily schedule.

One of the most recognizable nods will appear in ‘Última llamada’, a segment that pays tribute to A fondo, the interview program hosted by Joaquín Soler Serrano. The reference bridges two very different eras of TVE and makes the anniversary something more than a mere institutional celebration: it also serves to recover formats and figures tied to Spain’s television memory.

On Thursday comes the central moment of the week. Saber y ganar will officially reach 7,000 daily editions since its premiere, on February 17, 1997. The team is preparing a celebratory edition designed to share the milestone with viewers who have followed the show through its various phases.

The significance of an unusually high figure

In television, keeping a program on the air for decades is already challenging. Doing so with a daily broadcast and maintaining a recognizable identity is even rarer. The figure of 7,000 programs summarizes, above all, sustained continuity in a timeslot that has made La 2 one of the few networks with a stable appointment for knowledge-based programming and entertainment.

The data should also be read in context: the longevity of ‘Saber y ganar’ does not depend solely on its host, but on a well-defined structure: general knowledge questions, recognizable challenges, a steady rhythm, and a close relationship with the viewer at home. That combination has allowed the format to survive changes in TV consumption and the transformation of lineups.

The show has also built a special relationship with La 2’s audience. It does not lean on big twists or an aggressive competition narrative, but on the repetition of familiar rules and the appeal of measuring how much the contestant knows—and how much the person watching can learn—from the other side of the screen.

A new era after Sergi Schaaff

The quiz was created and directed for many years by Sergi Schaaff, a pivotal figure in its identity. After his passing in 2023, the helm passed to his daughters, Abigail Schaaff and Anaïs Schaaff, who have continued to lead the program without breaking the recognizable line of the format.

This transition helps explain part of the symbolic value of the celebration. Reaching 7,000 broadcasts is not only a nod to the past: it also confirms the show’s ability to move forward after the creator’s death and to retain its place within public television.

On screen, Jordi Hurtado remains the main face, joined by Rodrigo Vázquez, Pilar Vázquez, Elisenda Roca, and Núria Ramírez. The blend of figures tied to different eras of the program allows the specials to work as a celebration of the present, while also serving as a retrospective of the team’s evolution.

When to watch the specials on La 2

  • Wednesday, October 28, at 3:45 p.m.: special dedicated to TVE’s 70th anniversary.
  • Thursday, October 29, at 3:45 p.m.: commemorative program for Saber y ganar’s 7,000 broadcasts.

For viewers, the celebration offers two distinct entry points. The first revisits part of TVE’s history through its programs and figures; the second highlights the specific trajectory of a contest that has made regularity its main identifying feature.

With these two editions, Saber y ganar turns a television milestone into its own event. The show does not need to change its format to underscore its importance: it is enough to pause on the number of broadcasts and the time elapsed since the 1997 premiere of a public television that now celebrates, at the same time, seven decades of history.
