ATG Entertainment unveiled this Wednesday, October 21 in Madrid its new production of Dear Evan Hansen during a press preview, accompanied by new stage photographs. The musical, directed by David Serrano and starring Guillermo Martín, will premiere on Friday, October 23 at the Rialto Theatre, in the heart of Madrid’s Gran Vía.
The images distributed by the producer bring viewers close to one of the most recognizable elements of this version: a stage space filled with digital portraits, vertical screens and beams of light that envelop the performers. The projected faces occupy much of the background and the sides, while the set alternates domestic spaces with others that are more abstract.
The presence of those images makes sense within a story in which the need to be accepted and exposure on social media end up entangling. David Pizarro signs the scenic design, Emilio Valenzuela and Joan Rodón handle the video design and Carlos Torrijos the lighting.
A Story About Loneliness and a Lie Hard to Stop
Dear Evan Hansen tells the story of Evan, a 17-year-old student with social anxiety who struggles to relate to his peers. His therapist suggests he write letters addressed to himself to find reasons each day could be better, but one ends up in the hands of Connor Murphy and gives rise to a misunderstanding with unforeseen consequences.
The protagonist finds himself torn between telling the truth or clinging to a lie that, for the first time, brings him closer to the life he longed for. The screenplay by Steven Levenson tackles belonging, grief, family relationships and identity in a context shaped by digital communication. A key part of that conflict is condensed in “You’ll Be Found,” one of the musical’s songs whose Spanish-language version had already been presented by the cast.
The score and original lyrics are by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, also responsible for songs for La La Land and The Greatest Showman. The original Broadway production earned six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album; the London version received three Olivier Awards, including Best Musical.
Guillermo Martín Leads the Cast of the Spanish Production
Guillermo Martín plays Evan Hansen and shares the stage with Iván Clemente (Connor), Arnau Camps (Jared), Elvira Santa María (Zoe), Jessica Garcés (Alana), Verónica Ronda (Heidi), Lorena Calero (Cynthia) and Armando Pita (Larry). The company also includes Aleix María and Mariola Peña as swings and Neizán Martín, Julia Saura, Víctor González and Eva Lahoz as understudies.David Serrano directs the show and signs the Spanish adaptation alongside Alejandro Serrano. Musical direction is by Joan Miquel Pérez; the creative team is completed by Efrén Latorre in costumes, Esther Redondo in makeup, Gastón Briski in sound, Roberto del Campo in props and Iker Carrera in movement direction. The production is by ATG Entertainment Spain.
The official premiere will be on October 23 and ATG Tickets’ listings announce performances at the Rialto through December 20, 2026, with tickets starting at 25 euros. The approximate duration is two hours and fifteen minutes, including a intermission, and the recommended age is 13 and up. The new stage photographs offer a glimpse of the visual language with which the staging will translate the story of grief and social recognition that underpins the play.
