Disney+ has delayed the premiere in Spain of Caldas. The Last Boat from October 30 to December 2, 2026. The crime series, starring Javier Gutiérrez and Hovik Keuchkerian, will run six episodes and adapts the eponymous novel by Domingo Villar.
The change means 33 days more of waiting to return to the universe of Inspector Leo Caldas. The confusion has a simple explanation: Secuoya Studios’ announcement published in August still lists October 30, while Disney+’s official information already shows December 2. The new date replaces the one that appeared in the initial release calendars.
The platform has not provided a specific reason for the change; the available information confirms the new date and keeps the project as an exclusive Disney+ premiere.
A Case in the Vigo Estuary and Two Performers for Leo Caldas
The story begins with the disappearance of Mónica Andrade, daughter of a well-known surgeon from Vigo. Inspector Leo Caldas (Javier Gutiérrez) and his partner Rafael Estévez (Hovik Keuchkerian) confront a case in which family secrets, external pressures, and the detective’s own past come to light. The Galician setting matters as much as the mystery. Villar’s 2019 novel makes the Vigo estuary, its boat trips, and life on both sides of the coast part of the everyday functioning of the investigation. The series revives those settings to translate onto the screen a landscape that in the books accompanies Caldas’s observant and measured demeanor.
It is not the first time Leo Caldas has reached the screen. In 2015, Carmelo Gómez portrayed the inspector in The Beach of the Drowned, a film directed by Gerardo Herrero based on the saga’s second book. Antonio Garrido then played Estévez. The new fiction changes both actors and opts for six episodes to adapt the third novel, instead of a feature film.
The adaptation Domingo Villar Aimed to Drive Forward
The Vigo-born writer participated in the initial development of Caldas. The Last Boat before his death in 2022. The adaptation is credited to Eligio R. Montero and directed by Jorge Saavedra, with Secuoya Studios behind the production. The cast also includes María Pujalte, Antonio Mourelos, Alejandra Onieva and Miryam Gallego.
The translation of Spanish crime fiction to platforms is gaining new protagonists: Netflix, for example, is preparing an adaptation of the Jotadé novels by Santiago Díaz. The peculiarity of Caldas is that it revisits a detective who already had a cinematic incarnation and revives a project in which its creator participated at the outset.
When It Premieres and Where to Watch Caldas. The Last Boat
The current premiere date in Spain is December 2, 2026, exclusively on Disney+. The platform has confirmed that the series consists of six episodes, but the communicated information does not specify whether all will be available on day one or if they will be released weekly. October 30 should no longer be considered the launch date.
